Ingredients:

  • 1 (28 oz.) can Dei Fratelli Rustic Crushed & Chopped Tomatoes
  • 10 Chipotle Peppers, dried
  • 2 Poblano Peppers, seeded and diced
  • 3 Jalapenos, seeded and diced
  • 3 Serrano Peppers, seeded and diced
  • 1 small Red Onion, chopped
  • 5 Garlic Cloves
  • 3 Tbsp. Cilantro
  • 1 Tbsp. Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Cumin
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp. Sea Salt
  • 1/4 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Lime, juiced
  • Lime Zest, to taste

Instructions:

  • In a small pot, add chipotle peppers and cover them with water. Bring water to a boil and remove from heat. Let the peppers sit for 15-20 minutes to rehydrate.
  • Remove stems and seeds from chipotle peppers.
  • Combine Dei Fratelli Rustic Crushed & Chopped Tomatoes and all other ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Drain water from the pot used to steam chipotle peppers and place the blended picante sauce in the pot.
  • Simmer the sauce for 15 minutes.
  • Place the finished Picante Sauce in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator to cool before serving.

Chef's Tip:

This spicy Picante Sauce can be used as a topping for tacos and nachos, a spread for burritos and sandwiches, or the perfect simmer sauce for some spicy chicken.
