1920
The Beginning
Carl R. Hirzel purchases the farm near Toledo, OH.
1923
Began Growing Cabbage
With a plentiful harvest, Carl and Lena started shredding the cabbage and placing it in wooden drums to ferment and produce sauerkraut.
1924
Tomatoes Were Added
Sauerkraut was so popular with the local shop owners that they asked the Hirzels to begin producing tomatoes.
1935
The Hirzel Family Grew
Carl’s son, Karl, marries Rosalie, and they have 6 children together.
1947
Hirzel Canning Company was Incorporated
With Karl A. Hirzel as president and Rosalie as secretary.
1954
The Company Expanded
The Pemberville Foods plant is purchased.
1967
Innovating the Industry
The Bulk Unloading System is first successfully utilized at the Hirzel Canning Co. & farms plant in Northwood, Ohio.
1980
Dei Fratelli is Born
The Dei Fratelli Brand that. we know today is born.
1982
The Company Expanded Again!
The plant in Ottawa, Ohio is purchased from Buckeye Sugar.
2010
Constructed Aseptic Processing Facility
A state-of-the-art Aseptic Processing plant is built at Hirzel Canning Co. & Farm’s Ottawa, OH location.
2020
A New Look for Dei Fratelli
An updated label design for Dei Fratelli is released.
2023
Today
Today, the company is operated by 4th and 5th generation members of the Hirzel Family.
