Ingredients:

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 400 °F.
  • Cook rice according to package directions. Let the rice cool once fully cooked.
  • Prepare the cabbage by removing any damaged leaves from the cabbage and cut off the root, leaving the stem.
  • Bring pot of water to a boil and place the whole cabbage inside. Allow the leaves to separate from the core and remove the leaves once the leaves are pliable.
  • Set the cabbage leaves aside to cool.
  • Mix together the ground beef, Silver Fleece Sauerkraut, cooked rice, diced onion, and minced garlic in a bowl to create the cabbage roll filling. Season the filling with salt and pepper as desired.
  • Take a cooled cabbage leaf and add 1-2 spoonfuls of the filling on top of the leaf.
  • With the cabbage stem pointing away from you, fold the sides of the leaf over the filling. Then, roll the leaf up; starting from the top and rolling towards the stem to create a log shape. Try to roll the leaf as tightly as you can.
  • Place the roll in an oven safe pan with the stem side down.
  • Repeat steps 7-9 until there are no remaining cabbage leaves.
  • Pour Dei Fratelli Italian Sauce over the top of your cabbage rolls in your baking dish.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake in your preheated oven for 50 minutes.
  • Remove foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls' internal temperature reaches 155 °F.

Chef's Tip:

What type of cabbage works best for Cabbage Rolls?
Green cabbage is the best choice for classic Cabbage Rolls because its leaves soften easily and hold their shape when stuffed and baked. Boiling the cabbage briefly makes the leaves flexible and easy to roll without tearing.
How do you keep Stuffed Cabbage Rolls from falling apart?
To keep Stuffed Cabbage Rolls intact, be sure to remove the thick core from each cabbage leaf and roll them snugly, tucking in the sides as you go. Placing the rolls seam-side down in the baking dish helps them stay secure while cooking.
Can I freeze Stuffed Cabbage Rolls?
Yes, Stuffed Cabbage Rolls freeze very well. Freeze them fully cooked or unbaked in an airtight, oven safe container (such as an aluminum pan) with sauce. When ready to serve, thaw overnight and bake until heated through.
