Lentil Sloppy Joes

A vegetarian twist on the classic sloppy joe. Our Foodservice Star Cross Chili Sauce, green lentils, and green bell peppers help create a healthy and tasty meal. Top each of your Lentil Sloppy Joes with any of your favorite toppings to add your own flavorful twist.

Ingredients:
- 1 #10 can Star Cross Chili Sauce
- 4 Cups White Onion, medium diced
- 4 Cups Green Bell Pepper, medium diced
- 3 Tbsp. Carrot, peeled and medium diced
- 3 Tbsp. Garlic, minced
- 1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. Chili Powder
- 1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. Cumin
- 2 tsp. Paprika
- 2 tsp. Mustard Powder
- 2 tsp. Black Pepper
- 8 Cups Vegetable Stock
- 1/2 Cup White Vinegar
- 1/2 Cup Plant-Based Worcestershire Sauce
- 8 Cups Green Lentils, cooked
Instructions:
- In a large, wide pot, cook onion, bell pepper, carrot, and garlic over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, or until veggies are soft. Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, mustard, and black pepper and combine well. Continue cooking 8-10 minutes.
- Add Star Cross Chili Sauce and remaining ingredients, except lentils. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add cooked lentils and continue simmering for an additional 30 minutes.
Chef's Tip:
Serve on buns with sliced red onion, pickles, avocado, or your favorite toppings!
