Our Southern Tomato Pie is a deliciously comforting dish that features a flaky pie crust filled with Dei Fratelli Seasoned Diced Tomatoes, shallots, garlic, cheese and topped with golden panko crumbs. This pie is perfect for showcasing the flavors of summer tomatoes all year round. Enjoy it as a main dish or a delightful side at your next gathering!

Ingredients:

  • 1 (28 oz.) can Dei Fratelli Seasoned Diced Tomatoes, drained & rinsed
  • 1 ea Unbaked pie crust, store-bought or homemade
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic, minced
  • 3 ea Shallots, diced
  • 1/2 cup White cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1/3 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp All purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs

Instructions:

  • Parbake your pie crust at 400°F for 15 minutes until lightly golden brown. Reduce oven to 375°F.
  • While your crust is par baking, drain and rinse your Dei Fratelli Seasoned Diced Tomatoes, and allow to dry slightly.
  • Place your tomatoes, shallots, cheese, flour, mayonnaise, and spices into a medium bowl. Mix well.
  • Pour this mixture into your cooled crust, and sprinkle your panko breadcrumbs all over the top.
  • Bake at 375°F for 30-45minutes or until golden brown and the filling is set. (Note: You can broil your pie for 1-2 minutes on high to get a perfect golden top.)
  • Allow to cool completely before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh basil.

Need your kids to eat more vegetables? Try adding some bell peppers, mushrooms or spinach into this pie to entice your kids.
