Salsa Focaccia is a flavorful twist on traditional Italian bread that combines a soft, chewy crust with a zesty kick from Dei Fratelli Original Salsa. Made with a simple dough of flour, yeast, and warm water, this easy-to-make focaccia is perfect as a snack, appetizer, or alongside your favorite soups and salads!

Ingredients:

  • 1 (16 oz.) jar Dei Fratelli Our Original Salsa Mild
  • 4 1/2 cup All purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp Active dry yeast (or one 1/4 oz. packet)
  • 2 cups Warm water, 110°F
  • 1/4 cup Olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 16 oz Shredded cheese

Instructions:

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast, stirring well. Allow this to bloom for 5 minutes.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment, pour in your bloomed yeast, olive oil, and flour. Mix on low speed until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Sprinkle in your salt and pepper, and continue to mix on low speed until the dough stays concentrated around the dough hook and is not sticking to the bowl. (Note: if your dough is too dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time. If your dough is too wet, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until you get your desired dough consistency)
  • Gently scrape out your dough and place into a lightly oiled bowl. Cover tightly with saran wrap and allow to proof for 1 hour in a warm place.
  • Once your dough is doubled in size, pour out onto a lightly floured work surface. Punch down and gently knead the dough 3-4 times before placing onto a parchment-lined sheet tray. Cover again tightly with saran wrap and allow to proof for another 30 minutes.
  • Once your dough is relaxed again, using your hands, gently spread and shape your dough into your desired shape and thickness.
  • Spread on your salsa and cheese. Then, using your fingers, poke the dough all over to create the signature focaccia bubbles. Cover loosely and allow to proof for one last time for 30 minutes.
  • While your dough is proofing, preheat your oven to 400°F.
  • Once your dough is ready, bake for 20-30 minutes or until the bottom and edges are slightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before slicing.
