What is Kapusta? A delicious, Polish dish made with sauerkraut, mushrooms, and onions together. We added a little twist to our Polish Kapusta Recipe with some bacon and a little cumin for some spice, what more could you want in a braised sauerkraut?

Ingredients:

  • 1 (14 oz.) can Silver Fleece Sauerkraut, drained
  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 4 slices Bacon, diced
  • 1/2 Onion, diced
  • 1 Cup Mushrooms, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Caraway Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. Cumin
  • 1/4 Cup Water

Instructions:

  • In a medium frying pan, cook the bacon over medium heat. Cook until the bacon is crispy an the fat is rendered.
  • Add in olive oil, diced onions, and mushrooms. Cook until the onions are golden and the mushrooms are soft.
  • Stir in Silver Fleece Sauerkraut, brown sugar, caraway seeds, salt, pepper, cumin, and water to complete the Kapusta mixture.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer the Kapusta for 10-15 minutes.

Chef's Tip:

Use this Polish Kapusta recipe as you see fit!  It makes a great side dish or even a topper for a loaded bratwurst!
