This southern classic is made with Dei Fratelli Tomato Sauce and Seasoned Diced Tomatoes, smoked sausage, corn, pinto beans, and Cajun spice.  This one-pot Bold and Spicy Gumbo will warm up your kitchen and your taste buds in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (15 oz.) can Dei Fratelli Tomato Sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz.) can Dei Fratelli Seasoned Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 lb. Smoked Sausage, sliced
  • 1 Cup White Onion, diced
  • 2 (14.5 oz.) cans Chicken Broth
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 (15 oz.) can Corn, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15 oz.) can Pinto Beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Cajun Spice
  • 1/2 tsp. File Powder
  • Cayenne Pepper, to taste, optional
  • 2 Cups White Rice

Instructions:

  • In a large pot, cook sausage and onions over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until onion is tender and sausages are brown.
  • Add broth and water and bring to a boil. Add Dei Fratelli Tomato SauceDei Fratelli Seasoned Diced Tomatoes, corn, pinto beans, and spices.  Combine well.
  • Remove from heat and add rice.  Cover and cook until rice is fully cooked, about 5 minutes.

Chef's Tip:

Serve with bread or crackers.
For a plant-based Gumbo, replace chicken broth with some veggie broth and replace sausage with your favorite plant-based substitute!
