What are Arayes? They are a delicious Middle Eastern sandwich made by stuffing your favorite meats into grilled pita bread!Sign us up for that adventure! Our Beef Arayes featuring Dei Fratelli Stewed Tomatoes, are a twist on this ethnic dish so that you can find all the ingredients at your local grocery store! With juicy beef, crispy tortillas, and a homemade creamy yogurt tahini this recipe is an explosion of flavor in every bite.

Ingredients:

For the Arayes

  • 1 (28 oz.) can Dei Fratelli Stewed Tomatoes, drained and blended
  • 1 lb. Ground Beef
  • 1 Onion, minced
  • 3 Tbsp. Garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. Coriander
  • 2 tsp. Cumin
  • 1 tsp. Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. Allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. Sea Salt
  • 6 Large Flour Tortillas , burrito sized
  • Cooking Spray, as needed

For the Yogurt Tahini

  • 1 1/2 Cups Yogurt, plain
  • 3/4 Cups Tahini
  • 1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
  • 1 Tbsp. Garlic, minced
  • Sea Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 400 F.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, blended Dei Fratelli Stewed Tomatoes, and spices.
  • Using gloved hands, blend the beef mixture until all the spiced have been evenly distributed.
  • Lay out 6 burrito-sized flour tortillas on a clean countertop. Evenly divide the beef mixture among the 6 tortillas and spread the mixture over 1/2 of the tortilla.
  • Fold each tortilla in half to cover the beef mixture, like making a quesadilla, and press slightly to form the arayes.
  • Spray both sides of the arayes with cooking spray or brush lightly with your favorite oil and place on a parchment-lined sheet tray. You may need multiple sheet trays depending on their size.
  • Bake the Beef Arayes for 15 minutes, then flip each arayes over and bake again for another 15 minutes. If you want a really nice crunch, you can broil for an additional 1-2 minutes on each side after baking.
  • While the arayes are in the oven, mix all the yogurt tahini ingredients together in a small bowl.

Chef's Tip:

Want even more authenticity?  Find some pita bread at your local grocery store and use these instead of the tortillas for a true Middle Eastern Beef Arayes!
